MALACHITE
As turquoise was to the horse, the copper carbonate malachite was to the child. Some ancient eyes saw the handsome green gemstone as a protector of children. A piece of malachite attached to a cradle caused all evil spirits to be held aloof... causing the child to sleep soundly and peacefully. Certain Germans believed malachite to have the turquoise-like power that prevented injury due to falling. Malachite would also warn of impending disaster by breaking into several pieces. Malachite was (and maybe is) the deadly enemy of necromancers, witches and demons.
